The Mullewa Shooting: Unlicensed Gunman on the Loose
The police are on high alert as they search for an unlicensed firearms owner, Kenneth John Giles, 58, wanted in connection with a shooting incident in Western Australia's Midwest region. The incident, which occurred north of Mullewa on Wednesday night, left a woman with a gunshot wound to her hand, and has sparked an ongoing manhunt involving local police and reinforcements from Perth.
The victim, who remains in Royal Perth Hospital in a stable condition, is still recovering and speaking with detectives. Superintendent Neil Vanderplank confirmed that the incident is being treated as a family and domestic violence case, and that the woman is undergoing surgeries and appointments with doctors.
The police have received hundreds of tips, but have yet to establish a firm lead on Mr. Giles's whereabouts. Superintendent Vanderplank believes that Mr. Giles is still in the Midwest Gascoyne district, an area covering approximately 389,000 square kilometers. He has called on Mr. Giles to surrender, stating that police resources and reinforcements will remain in place until he is found.
The police have also issued a public appeal for Mr. Giles to hand himself in, with friends and family members speaking out in support. Bianca Byron, who has lived in Mullewa for around seven years, knows several people present during the incident and was shocked by the events that unfolded.
The police have described Mr. Giles as a skilled bushman who can hunt and survive off the land, and have warned the public not to approach him if seen. They have also asked residents to contact Triple Zero (000) with any sightings.
