Divock Origi, the beloved cult hero of Liverpool FC, has had his contract terminated by AC Milan, marking a sad decline for a player who once won it all at Anfield. Origi, only 30 years old, has not played for his most recent club in 942 days, since May 28, 2023, in a Serie A clash with Juventus. Despite his brief return to the Premier League last season on a loan deal, Origi is no longer the clinical super-sub he once was. He moved to AC Milan in 2022, but in two-and-a-half years, he only found the back of the net twice in 36 appearances for the Rossoneri. The Serie A side confirmed Origi's exit with a brief statement, wishing him all the best for the future. According to French outlet L'Equipe, Origi was earning around £65,000 a week at AC Milan. Italian paper Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Origi resisted all transfer interest following his loan at Nottingham Forest, despite his last appearance coming as a substitute against Everton in April 2024. Following the conclusion of the 2024 summer transfer window, Origi trained away from AC Milan, splitting his time between Rome and Florence while working with a personal trainer. Origi's Liverpool career began in 2014 when the club signed him for just £10 million. It wasn't until Klopp took the reins in October 2015 that Origi truly earned his stripes, becoming a prolific striker in high-pressure moments. During his eight years at Anfield, Origi enjoyed a memorable purple patch in 2019, scoring in the Champions League semi-final win over Barcelona, the winning goal in the final against Tottenham, and a last-minute Merseyside derby winner against Everton.
