Anika Noni Rose Joins Broadway's 'The Balusters' as Renée Elise Goldsberry Exits Over Scheduling Conflict
The Tony Award-winning actress Anika Noni Rose has stepped into the spotlight, taking on the role of a passionate neighborhood association member in the upcoming Broadway world premiere of David Lindsay-Abaire's 'The Balusters'. She replaces Renée Elise Goldsberry, who had to withdraw due to a scheduling conflict.
The production is set to begin previews on Tuesday, March 31, with an opening night on Tuesday, April 21, at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. The announcement was made by the Manhattan Theatre Club, who also revealed the director, Kenny Leon, and the rest of the cast, including Marylouise Burke, Kayli Carter, Ricardo Chavira, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Margaret Colin, Michael Esper, Maria-Christina Oliveras, Richard Thomas, and Jeena Yi.
Anika Noni Rose's stage credits are impressive, including her Tony-winning performance in 'Caroline, or Change'. She has also graced the stage in 'Uncle Vanya' and 'A Raisin in the Sun'. Her film and TV credits include 'Dreamgirls', 'Maid', and her voice-over work as Princess Tiana in 'The Princess and the Frog', making her the first African American Disney Princess. She has also lent her voice to 'Mufasa: The Lion King' and 'Zootopia 2'. Her recent small-screen appearances include 'Let the Right One In'.
'The Balusters' is a comedy that explores the passions of the Vernon Point Neighborhood Association, where members argue over everything from historically inaccurate porch railings to trash can placement. The plot intensifies when a new board member proposes an idea that sparks a neighbor-versus-neighbor battle: installing a stop sign on the corner of the most picturesque block.
Anika Noni Rose is represented by Innovative, David Williams Management, GoodManagement, and Schreck Rose Dapello.
